Welcome Wal-Mart

Synthesis
Welcome Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart has bought land in Jackson Country and is planning on building a new supercenter in the Carbondale-Murphysboro area. It is natural to build Wal-Mart in the Carbondale-Murphysboro area. Even though Wal-Mart has been in Carbondale, Wal-Mart tries to build there, because Wal-Mart knows the tendency of the customers. Maybe most people want to buy cheap alcohol because Carbondale Wal-Mart doesn't have alcohol by its regulation of law. Wal-Mart has freedom to expand anywhere in the world, even though it makes small shops disappear. Every day most customers want to buy their goods at a cheap price; that reason makes Wal-Mart bigger in the world.

Wal-Mart is the greatest shop in business history. Hopkins (2003) explains that Wal-Mart's unique technology to get information of the total economic situation helped it to be successful in the business world in the late 1990s. It's important to analyze cost, to make delivery of goods quick to the customers. Especially low-income customers like the low price of Wal-Mart's goods. The best value is chosen to the customers, so its low price is charming enough to be a winner in the free market. It is natural to build Wal-Mart in the Carbondale-Murphysboro area for business by discovering customer's tendency.

Wal-Mart makes good influence on the local economy. Wal-Mart makes new jobs to the people, and makes profits to share with people. Wal-Mart has a good influence on business in the U.S. According to J. Hoeing (2004, par. 16), "In 2005, Wal-Mart created 125,000 U.S. jobs, and is continuously adding thousands each month". I think that Wal-Mart makes the local economy better. The people in Murphysboro can get jobs, and the economic situation will be better even though small shops will have difficulty changing. Locke (2004) insists that we consider Wal-Mart's devotion such as a low price, huge profits, and hiring employees in the society.

In conclusion, it is natural to build Wal-Mart anywhere if the customers want.

Argue Essay

Wal-Mart and small shops

There are various tastes in consumers. Some consumers are likely to choose convenience, and some consumers are likely to choose quality, even though they have to pay more. Some people worry about expansion of Wal-Mart. Everything is connected in the economy. Even though Wal-Mart has freedom to build their markets anywhere, small shops are disappearing from local economies and the consumers will be influenced by the result, for example, Wal-Mart's power of controlling price without any competitor.

I plan to write that three things should be done about Wal-Mart and the small shop. The government should not intervene in Wal-Mart's expansion to the customers for three reasons.

First, consumers have the right to enjoy their low price. The government should not intervene in expansion of Wal-Mart with its low price and convenience. Most consumers like Wal-Mart's marketing, even though its quality could not satisfy them. In a free market, Wal-Mart's low price is a good strategy to attract customers, and also customers could save their money ; furthermore, Wal-Mart makes customers happy. The government could not prevent erecting a Wal-Mart anywhere.

Second, small shops should search for their special strategy to lure the customers, such as high quality or high service, because some consumers are willing to open their purse to get high quality. Small shop's unique strategies are the only solution to a problem they made themselves. Wal-Mart also started as a small shop without government support. For example, there are several small shops that have the unique strategy, such as Dollar General(lower price), Best buy(more various electric goods), Staples(more various staples), etc. More competition, better price and better quality help the customers; Wal-Mart is good innovator to improve small shop's strategies to the customers.

Third, it's a natural business way to be competitive like the fierce animal world. The strongest shop would be the winner, and the process will make economic environment better. It means that Wal-Mart is an example of innovators in modern economy. Wal-Mart has the ability to make money by its strong strategy that studies the taste of consumers. Its marketing is powerful enough to lure customers. "Everyday low price,"its slogan, is very attractive to the customers. Who knows that "high quality is better than cheap things". The economic situation is changing quickly, The small shops should not only read consumers thinking but also lead them. It is necessary for small shops to get positive and aggressive strategies to the customers without crying.

In conclusion, consumers have right to go to the place which is better to them;that is why it's possible for Wal-Mart to open its shop. It is good for the consumers through competition of price and quality. There are some ways to solve this problem; some shops which have strong strategy to the customer will survive in a fierce business world. So the government should not intervene in Wal-Mart expansion.

Wal-Mart and small shops

I became interested in Wal-Mart after reading several articles about it. Small shops tend to be nervous to the supercenter Wal-Mart because they will lose money because of Wal-Mart's cheap price and good convenience. The problem is that the small shops how should survive with a giant Wal-Mart. According to Keiser(2006), some cities don't like Wal-Mart's moving into their places, because small shops have to close their shops. On other hand, Rice(2005) explains some consumers are likely to choose cheap price. Some consumers are likely to choose convenience and some consumers are likely to choose quality even though they have to pay more.

There are various tastes in consumers. Some people worry about expansion of Wal-Mart. Everything is connected in the economy. It Couldn't Be Done---------Edcar Cuest

Somebody said that it couldn't be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so til he'd tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

Somebody scoffed; "Oh,you'll never do that"
At least no one ever has done it";
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
and the first thing we knew he'd begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quitting,
He started to sing as he tackeled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it:
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That "cannot be done," and you'll do it.

I learned this poetry in speaking class, I am lucky to know this poem that inspires me. I need "can-do attitude" now. What made me depressed?

Freedom

Freedom
Free-market capitalism is based on freedom. Everybody has the opportunity to make money equally without government registration. Everybody can have his profits from business; everybody has right to be happy according to individual ability.

I agree that Wal-Mart has the right to move into Carbondale-Murphysboro because America is based on free-market capitalism. Considering the 'freedom' of America, it is natural to make money by their free will, even though it makes a serious problem of losing profits; furthermore, it makes a social problem such small shops disappearing in the local market. Adam Smith explains that an invisible hands controls the price of market without regulation of government. It is possible to explain that the rule comes from controlling demand and supply in the market by invisible hand.

Basically capitalism is freedom. Freedom is the most important value in the U.S. through the history of business in the U.S. According to the Bill of Right, the government can not make control of the people. The ancestors of America came for freedom avoiding regulations from power of a specific class. If you have desire to earn money with your capital, it is ok, because that you have the right to do that. It's capitalism. So the government should not prevent Wal-Mart's marketing strengths such as low prices and convenience and the right of consumers who want to buy anything, anywhere if they want.
